Tamar River Sailing Club
Yacht & Dinghy Racing
We have a number of new boats in the racing fleet and the numbers still appear to be rising, which is great news. We will continue to use the National Handicap for Cruisers system to allow a broader number of boats to compete and will continue to use the full mix of starting and time recording methods we were forced to use last year. If you are interested in joining in, even for only the occasional race there are always members who are pleased to provide advice and guidance.
You can join in the fun of the racing season at any point in the year but you must complete a registration form, available at the club and online. The Sailing Calendar, including Notices of Race and Sailing instructions, Entry Forms and Race Marks are available as downloads.
The racing season begins in late April with a short Covid series and our annual Yacht Regatta will be held over the weekend 23rd, 24th, 25th July 2021. As well as providing lots of fun racing the regatta normally has a full social programme off the water with food, music and socialising aplenty but will be subject to the covid rules running at that time. We open with a youth helm race on Friday evening and plan to run at least 3 races over the weekend for both racing and white sail fleets if there are enough entrants.
2021 Yacht Racing Schedule:
Monday night racing commences on 26th April for a series of 3 races, with the Spring Series starting on the 24th May.
Summer series starts on 28th June and runs until 26th July and the Late Summer series 2nd August to 13th September, format to be confirmed.
Starts on 4th September to 9th October. We will decide what to do about how we include the Cargreen Regatta, if that happens.
TREVOR PARROT TROPHY – race to Salcombe and back 12th June.
COMMODORES SHIELD – 2 handed race on 26th June.
DEREK MALE CUP – 25th September.
Last race of each long series plus the Friday evening race of the regatta.

In recent years the dinghy race fleet has been going from strength to strength with numbers in double figures on many Wednesday evenings. With a slightly new format for dinghy racing, including 4 shorter race series in the Spring and Summer interspersed with ‘one off’ pursuit races; we anticipate that those numbers may well increase. Details are also listed in the schedule of training events on the club website. The Annual Dinghy Regatta will be held on the weekend 4th & 5th July 2020 with entries expected from a number of local clubs. If you are interested in joining in, even for only the occasional race, we are always pleased to provide advice and guidance. Most importantly the Cadets will continue to meet on Friday evenings and will hopefully be providing the crews, and champions of the future.
